Crete's Seatrac beaches: into the sea on your own
Facts checked on October 11, 2026
For people who can’t get into the sea on their own. A Seatrac is a ramp with a chair that runs into the sea, worked by a remote control, so you can get in and out of the water without help. The Seatrac directory lists 21 on Crete. This page lists what the directory and the team behind it, TOBEA, say: where they are, what each beach has, how to get the remote control, and what to check before you go.
Seatracs are installed for the season and removed after it, so confirm the status of your beach before your trip.
Not covered yet
Beaches without a Seatrac, getting around the island, the airports and ports, and archaeological sites. This guide covers only the Seatrac directory, and we only write what we have read on an operator’s own pages.
How it works
- It is free to use.
- The remote control: each beach’s page says who holds it on site, such as the lifeguard or the canteen. If no one does, call TOBEA on +30 2610 876000 and they will deliver one, in 1–3 days in Greece. The remotes are waterproof.
- Visiting from abroad? TOBEA can send a remote to your hotel. Email seatrac.preview@tobea.gr with your hotel’s name, your name and the day you arrive. The English FAQ says this is free; the Greek one says a remote of your own is free but you pay the postage, so ask when you write.
- Getting on: you move the chair up or down to match the height of your wheelchair, then shift across onto it, with your feet in the middle of the footrest.
- The buttons: hold the left button for 2 seconds to go into the sea and the right one to come back. To stop at any point, hold either button for 2 seconds. The chair moves at 0.15 metres a second.
- Do a test run to the sea and back before you get on, and don’t use it in high waves.
- If it stops halfway, there is a crank inside the motor unit to wind the seat back by hand; the FAQ explains how. If the Seatrac isn’t working when you arrive, call TOBEA on +30 2610 876000.
