How Step-Free makes money

Today
Step-Free has three partners: Booking.com, for places to stay, and GetYourGuide and Viator, for tours and activities. Their links in your plan are marked Partner link. If you book after clicking one, that partner may pay Step-Free a commission. No other link in your plan earns a commission, and there is no advertising and no paid feature. At the end of each plan you can also leave an optional tip.
Step-Free is free. You don’t need an account, and no part of your plan is behind a paywall. That will not change.
The AI that writes each plan costs money to run. Partner links and tips help pay for it. These are the rules for them, so you can hold us to them.
Partner links
- Each one is marked Partner link.
- If you book after clicking one, the partner may pay Step-Free a small commission. You pay the same price as going to the site directly.
- This page lists every partner and what for.
Partners
- Booking.com, for places to stay: “Booking.com — accessible filter on” under Where to stay, and “Hotels here” next to each area your plan suggests. These links go through CJ, the network that runs Booking.com’s partner programme.
- GetYourGuide, for tours and activities: one link, “Activities on GetYourGuide”, under Things to do in your plan.
- Viator, for tours and activities: one link, “Tours on Viator”, under Things to do, when Viator lists your destination.
Booking.com opens a hotel search for your destination and dates, with its filter for facilities for disabled guests turned on. GetYourGuide and Viator open their tours and activities for your destination. None of these results is checked against your access profile: hotels and operators describe their own access, so confirm it with them before you book. Your plan lists the questions to ask a hotel.
Tips
- At the end of each plan there is a link to buy us a coffee on Ko-fi. You choose the amount.
- A tip is optional and unlocks nothing. Your plan is the same whether or not you leave one.
- You pay on Ko-fi’s site, and the money goes to Step-Free. What we see when you tip is explained under Privacy.
What money will never change
- Ratings. Whether a place is marked Step-free, Partly accessible or Barriers depends only on your access profile. No one can pay to change it.
- Order. No one can pay to be listed first.
- Warnings. We never hide or soften a barrier because a partner is involved.
- Choice. Links that earn nothing stay in your plan next to any partner links.
What partners get from us
A partner knows a click came from Step-Free. The link contains your destination, and for some searches your travel dates, so the search is filled in for you. Booking.com links also turn on Booking.com’s filter for facilities for disabled guests, the same for everyone, and go through CJ first, which records the click. A link never contains your access profile: not how you get around, your equipment or your needs. We never sell or share your data. See Privacy.
